For anyone intending to succeed at a thing, the main obstacle, regardless of what “thing” they are pursuing comes down to not enough people knowing about that person. That’s simply it! Not enough people know about that person and what they do or are intending to do. If more people knew, more people would support and participate. The overlying answer is simple, but the underlying problem is not so easy. Two of the most powerful questions in my life have been “why?’ and “why not?”. So now that we’ve realized that obscurity is the really the main obstacle of someone who intends success, we must ask ourselves: why?
The main reason is fear. That really is what it comes down to. We actually suppress ourselves because in the past we’ve either been personally suppressed by others or we have seen someone suppressed by another. This enforced external suppression results in fear and our defense mechanism is to suppress ourselves because at least then it was our idea. Sound familiar? I relate this to playing football when I was really little. As a child, when I knew I was going to be tackled hard I would voluntarily fall down. My reasoning was that both situations would result in me lying on my back. It hurt less if I did it to myself and therefore, I could make sense of “tackling” myself so that I could avoid pain. We’ve all experienced this somewhere.
So, what is the solution? We must decide to flourish and prosper. By deciding and committing, we force ourselves to solve for the obstacles. Let’s first handle the potential for pain from those who may suppress us. Sometimes we call them “haters”. The best way to handle haters is to become massively successful. For one, it just feels really good. But more importantly, when you begin winning and succeeding your energy changes. You literally vibrate at a wave-length so different than theirs that it will repel them. I’ve experienced this in my own life countless times. I’ve never had to confront somebody that was being negative and suppressive. I’ve just continued pursuing massive success and as I’ve achieved it, the “haters” have simply just fallen off and disappeared. New ones will come and replace them and you will handle them the same way. Your focus should not be on fixing them or being “right”. Just repel them and keep going.
Now that we’ve decided what to do what the suppressors and we have decided to flourish and prosper, we must simply go do it. We start by shouting it from the roof tops. Promote yourself. Show people what you’re succeeding at and tell them where you’re going. The “haters” are not the ones who have been suppressing you in the past, remember? You’ve been suppressing yourself out of fear of what they may think or do. So, you must un-suppress yourself from yourself. Go get visible and extrovert.
Practically, go take massive action towards your goal. As you succeed, document it and share it. Do not adopt a false sense of “humility” to make sense of your lack of self-promotion via self-righteousness. That is idiotic and insane. If you’re good at something and winning, be truthful and share it. This is how you promote. Tell people how you’re winning. Paint a picture of where you’re going and communicate it frequently. And make sure you invite people to come with you!
This is how you become known! My favorite example of this is Muhammad Ali. He decided to be a world champion fighter and began doing it. He made sure to put the work in to win his fights and he made sure plenty of people saw him win. He would communicate where he was going and continue promoting his successes. “I am the greatest” was his proclamation of his destination. Imagine if he decided to play the false “humility” card and win his fights in secret. Imagine if his pitch was “I’m decent” rather than “I am the greatest”. It wouldn’t work.
Decide to succeed. Realize success will handle any haters you gain and repel them. Un-suppress yourself by making yourself know and promoting yourself. Work hard. Win. Make sure people see it. Communicate your destination and invite others to join you.
